Principal’s Report

Dear Parents, Students and Teachers,

I hope that you have enjoyed a relaxing break after a very busy Term 3. I welcome you back to an even busier Term 4. Spring has sprung and I hope you are enjoying the weather, blossoming trees and flowers. I am amazed by how quickly the roses in front of the school are growing. I encourage you to take a moment to stop and smell the roses.

The students have returned for the last term with energy and enthusiasm. It is a demanding term with many events including the end of year graduation, VCE graduation and Acknowledgement Day. Units 3 and 4 VCE exams have commenced and our year 12 students are prepared and studious. The exams will conclude on the 24th of November. I wish all the VCE students the best for their exams. I hope that they achieve the desired mark from each exam and their hard work will pay off.

School is a place that should be remembered as an opportunity to grow, combining fun activities with hard work. Our current years 12s have developed a strong, positive relationship with our teachers, and I hope our junior students learn from their example. I would like to remind our Year 11 students how important routine is. Create an effective routine now, and develop that work ethic not only until you finish your VCE Unit 3 and 4 exams, but throughout your adult lives. Prepare yourselves now for your educational journey ahead. Sirius College is offering variety of VCE subjects in year 11 and 10. Due to the year 10 curriculum, the year 10s are offered limited subjects. The VCE Administration team selects subjects which are lighter in content for the year 11s, as a bridging tool for Unit 3 and 4. Completing a Unit 3 and 4 subject in year 11 lessens the load in year 12, allowing students to focus on their final subjects. Year 7 to 10 elective subject selections are in the final stages of selection.

Our Arts Department held a very successful and professional Art Exhibition at the Hume Global Learning Center in Broadmeadows. Students from all campuses were given an opportunity to showcase their art work. Works ranged from year 7 textiles to VUE VCD pieces. Independent Schools Victoria were impressed by the quality of our students work and invited a select number to attend the launch for ISV Arts Festival at the Melbourne Recital Centre on the 20th November. Thank you to Ms. Hisu and Ms. Sebil for the artistic evening and exhibition week.

Another well-organised activity was the Athletics Carnival. It was amazing to see students participating as a house cohort, strengthening their team work and being active. Sirius students have great potential for sports. Due to student requests we are preparing to broaden our sport curriculum by offering new electives: Sport Elective and Certificate II Leadership Program in Sport. I would like to thank Ms. Nicole, Ms. Tijen and Ms. Hannah for organising sports days and developing the curriculum.

During week 3, we participated in the YouDebate competition in Sydney. Sirius College sister schools participated in the event which enabled the students to practice their debating skills in a competitive but friendly environment. I was very proud to see students from Sirius College; thank you to Mrs. Jenny Mangan for training our girls in the important skills involved with debating.

Lastly, I would like to thank all of my staff members for their enormous efforts at school, with our students and community. We recently celebrated International Teachers Day, but my appreciation is all year round. Thank you for your contributions. You are valued.
